Why does my friend not want me to work at hooters?

ok, i dont like their dress code, but i have no choice. i own cash to some people and im broke. i tried searching for a a short term part time job but with no luck. i was ping by hooters a week back and luckily they had vacancy. my friend is really against me working there. he says it's *derogatory*.what's with him? why is he being so possessive? its not like im gonna work there forever.
